The Robert Stephenson Trust promotes the achievements of the greatest engineer of the Nineteenth Century with the aim of making todays generation aware of his work and humanity to inspire a new generation of engineers through his achievements
The Aims of the Trust are:

* To make Robert Stephenson famous again

* To make today's generation aware of his achievements

* To inspire a new generation of engineers through his achievements
​
* To tell today's world about his genius and humanity
His forward thinking enabled the significant expansion of railways during the ‘railway mania’ of the mid nineteenth century. His expertise in both civil and mechanical engineering established the concept of the railway which developed in this country, and was then exported to the world.
